He stood near the back row.
Relief hit me for a moment.
Julian could explain.
I crossed the room quickly.
“Julian.”
He turned.
The color drained from his face.
That reaction told me everything.
“You knew.”
His eyes moved toward the hallway.
“Meredith, please. This isn’t the place to do…”
“You knew he was alive.”
“Keep your voice down.”
I laughed once, bitterly.
“I stood beside your family at his funeral.”
Julian rubbed his forehead.
“Please. Let me explain after the ceremony.”
“The ceremony?”
He lowered his voice.
“It’s complicated.”
“No. Complicated is changing a wedding date. Complicated is finding out your fiancé cheated on you. This is something else.”
A few guests glanced our way.
Julian stepped closer.
“Adrian was going to tell you.”
“When?”
He didn’t answer.
Something inside me settled.
The grief remained, but clarity had joined it.
“Who’s the bride?”
Julian looked away.
