But unexpectedly, one of the women who for many years had endured Vanessa’s abuses stepped forward.
“Enough!” he shouted loudly.
Then another inmate stood beside her. Then a third. Within seconds, almost the entire courtyard surrounded Vanessa. For the first time in many years, no one looked down or took a step back.
Even Vanessa understood that she was left alone. He slowly let Margaret go and took a few steps back.
But the most unexpected happened hours later.
The noise in the yard was heard by prison staff. They quickly separated the inmates, and the shift chief immediately ordered the recordings of all surveillance cameras removed. When the address reviewed the video, there was no doubt. In the recording it was clearly seen that Margaret had not provoked anyone, was quietly washing her clothes, and that Vanessa was the first to approach, begin to threaten her and, for no reason, forcefully immerse the old woman face in the dirty water.
